Cannabidiol or cbd for dogs is one of two primary active phytocannabinoids found in marijuana plants. Cannabidiol is also known as THC or hippotrene. Cannabidiol is a phytocannabinoid found in 1940. It accounts for more than 40% of the cannabis plant’s extract and is one of the potent phytocannabinoid constituents. In addition, the CBD is the primary chemical component of marijuana, with little if any other compounds present.
Cannabidiol has been found to have many medical benefits, but it is relatively new in clinical trials. In fact, cannabidiol has only been used in recent years to treat severe pain in patients who are suffering with multiple sclerosis (MS), a disease that results in the body’s white blood cells attacking healthy tissue. While no long-term clinical studies have yet been performed on cannabidiol, the preliminary results have been promising. According to statements made by the developers of Sativex, the synthetic derivative of cannabis sativa, “CBD oil is now being used to alleviate the symptoms of MS.”
What are the health benefits of CBD? The primary health benefits of CBD oil seem to focus on neuropathic pain, especially when inflammation is involved. When the central nervous system is inflamed, it causes an exaggerated response from the immune system, resulting in an increased pain response. However, CBD has been shown to prevent the brain’s release of chemicals involved in the inflammatory process.
Aside from reducing neuropathic pain, CBD may help reduce anxiety. In animal studies, CBD has been shown to improve anxiety through reducing locomotor activity and panic response. Additionally, the chemical seems to target both the Central Nervous System and the Autonomic Motor System, which control the emotion and the ability to move. Animal studies suggest that CBD may help reduce symptoms related to depression, epilepsy, migraine headaches, and other anxiety-related disorders. It may also help increase self-esteem, reduce fear and anxious behavior, reduce symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorders and post-traumatic stress disorders, as well as help patients with Parkinson’s disease and other diseases that affect the brain’s control center. While more research is needed to confirm these results, CBD has been used for years as a treatment for medical conditions that can otherwise cause mood disorders or anxiety.
Another potential use for CBD is to treat arthritis. In a recent study published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, a lab created a CBD-derivative called “Sativex” that appears to be effective in reducing inflammation. The compound has proven to be highly effective in tests conducted in China, Japan and the United States. According to the study’s authors, the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD may be particularly effective in reducing joint pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. This would make it ideal for treating conditions such as osteoarthritis.
One potential use of CBD is to treat epilepsy, but there is still no evidence that it helps treat the disease. A separate clinical trial involving children with special needs found that sativex had a positive effect, but that the treatment had no effect on children with either type of epilepsy. Similarly, a French study found that CBD was ineffective at relieving epileptic seizures, but the supplement did show improvement in children with the classic form of the disease. There is still no evidence that CBD can help prevent or treat Alzheimer’s disease, and it is not clear whether it has any effect at all on attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. But if you suffer from one of these mood disorders, CBD oil may be just what you need.
