Whats Poppington: amfAR’s New York Inspiration Gala

The rich, fabulous, and famous came out to support the amFAR Gala last night, where film, fashion, music, and art all join forces for a special cause. Every year amfar raises millions of dollars for AIDS reseach and their always over the top event is always the plae to be seen. Marc Jacobs, Fergie, Hilary Swank, Scissor Sisters, a live marching band, and the Philly Eagles cheeerleaders all sprung for the attention, the atmosphere is overwhelming at times, but all in good fun. Guests were treated to an additional flight of fancy during the evening’s star-studded charity fashion show, filled to the brim with the world’s finest male models. A series of chic looks were up for auction; everything from refined Tom Ford suits, outlandish Thom Browne pieces and barely there bikinis worn with panache by some of the biz’s best bodies. Athleticism was a theme of the evening, with Olympic legend Greg Louganis leading the pack as they made their way down the runway…..sooo Poppington

Whats Poppington: Louis Vuitton takes ‘Fetish’ to another level

Louis Vuitton – Paris Fall 2011 / Winter 2012 Louis Vuitton fall 2011 fashion show was based on fetish idea that came from a conversation with LVMH’s Bernard Arnault about women’s “inexplicable” obsession with bags, Jacobs explained. On the final day of Paris Fashion Week, Louis Vuitton show opened with fetish-inspired collection as the models stepped out of three elevators onto the catwalk. Creative director Marc Jacobs send models including Freja, Shu Pei and Kinga strutting the stuff on runway donning handcuffs, pantless outfits, leather pieces, lace and lovely sheer and masks placed on chauffeur hats.

It was a ‘Disciplined’ show that presented bell boys, elevators, french maids and supermodels on the runway. Making Louis Vuitton Fall 2011 Show all the more extravagant were supermodels Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Carolyn Murphy who catwalked on runway and grabbed attention. It was a terrific show that saw a battalion of French maids wielding enormous feather dusters greeting the designer’s guests. Models stepped on runway donning Louis Vuitton Fall 2011 dresses cut from an incredible range of fabrics teamed with bags in variety of designs and material like gold, python, harlequin-cut shearling and embroidered monogram rubber.

The reinterpreted 1958 top-handle Lockit bag cuffed to the models’ wrists with diamond handcuffs, was interesting. Looks like police-hatted, silk-stockinged, jodhpured style; menswear inspired tweed coats and jackets reshaped into hourglasses, printed ’40s-style dresses, skirt-and-sweater combos with rectangular paillettes, sleek sweaters, clipped Mongolian lamb pieces, white-collared dresses were chic.

Whats Poppington: Marc Jacobs S/S 2012

The last show on the NY fashion week calendar, Marc Jacobs was given the amazing task of ending things with a bang. Given the best of the best editors filling the seats of the Armory, but Marc managed to move the audience by showing his best collections to date. Everything from cashmere sweatshirts, Stephen Jones crafted lamé du-rags and silicone dresses appeared on Jacobs’ runway. In the hands of a lesser designer these quirky touches might seem haphazard, but Marc managed to create a cohesive look. Somewhere between futuristic flapper and urbane fashionista lies the Jacobs girl: this season there are no literal references, and as such each piece took on a life of its own. Clothing with personality is what Marc Jacobs is all about and spring’s offerings are filled with the charm, grace and wit we’ve come to expect from America’s current fashion king.

Whats Poppington: Smurfette in Designer Lables

When I was young watching the smurfs was one of the highlights of my day, and for some reason I always anticipated seeing Smurfette. Just now after all these years, and well into my adult life I’ve figured out the reason why Smurfette and I had such a connection. It’s because she’s highly fashionable and such a designer lable diva.

Whats Poppington: Marc Jacobs plays “dress up” with Prada’s fall 2011 collection in Industrie

Okay I just want to say that I love Marc Jacobs with passion, and the fact he decided to play “dress up” with Miuccia effortless classy Prada collection, makes me adore him even more. He plays out as a Miuccia maniac. Marc dresses up in womens clothing, and shows the designer dressed in a variety of head to toe looks for Prada’s Fall 2011 Collection.

Marc, clearly a voracious Prada fan, was shot by Manuela Pavesi, Micciua’s best friend. Quoted in the spread is Miuccia herself: “Of course I like Marc dressing in Prada very much. I think he is very brave and, most important of all, he looks completely acceptable and elegant. He has a real spirit and I like his work.” He also said “I got through this dreary winter by coming to work each day dressed in Cat-in-the-hat fur boas, striped pencil skirts, hospital scrubs, correctional-facility tops and brogue/espadrille/creeper-style shoes-all Prada. Some men’s, and some from the women’s collection.” according to Katie Grand, he bought two of every skirt from the collection, one from NY and Paris…..thats our Marc.
