Whats Poppington: Dakota and Elle Fanning for W Magazine

At first I was the like “the Olsen Twins?” but as I gazed more and more into the pic, I noticed “omg the Fannings are all grown up now”
Dakota and her little sister Elle Fanning covers the December issue of W Magazine. In the December issue, Elle speaks candidly about being the little sister to Dakota and scoring her first movie role when she was an infant. Both Dakota and Elle had the pleasure of working with famed movie director Steven Spielberg when they were 12 years old. Now that Dakota is moving off to college, Elle says she can no longer borrow her sisters clothes, because Dakota took them with her.

Whats Poppington: Louis Vuitton takes ‘Fetish’ to another level

Louis Vuitton – Paris Fall 2011 / Winter 2012 Louis Vuitton fall 2011 fashion show was based on fetish idea that came from a conversation with LVMH’s Bernard Arnault about women’s “inexplicable” obsession with bags, Jacobs explained. On the final day of Paris Fashion Week, Louis Vuitton show opened with fetish-inspired collection as the models stepped out of three elevators onto the catwalk. Creative director Marc Jacobs send models including Freja, Shu Pei and Kinga strutting the stuff on runway donning handcuffs, pantless outfits, leather pieces, lace and lovely sheer and masks placed on chauffeur hats.

It was a ‘Disciplined’ show that presented bell boys, elevators, french maids and supermodels on the runway. Making Louis Vuitton Fall 2011 Show all the more extravagant were supermodels Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Carolyn Murphy who catwalked on runway and grabbed attention. It was a terrific show that saw a battalion of French maids wielding enormous feather dusters greeting the designer’s guests. Models stepped on runway donning Louis Vuitton Fall 2011 dresses cut from an incredible range of fabrics teamed with bags in variety of designs and material like gold, python, harlequin-cut shearling and embroidered monogram rubber.

The reinterpreted 1958 top-handle Lockit bag cuffed to the models’ wrists with diamond handcuffs, was interesting. Looks like police-hatted, silk-stockinged, jodhpured style; menswear inspired tweed coats and jackets reshaped into hourglasses, printed ’40s-style dresses, skirt-and-sweater combos with rectangular paillettes, sleek sweaters, clipped Mongolian lamb pieces, white-collared dresses were chic.

The Shoe Game: Jil Sander F/W 2011 Footwear

Beautiful boots with some nice gold detailing including a hole in the wedge that accommodates the stirrup pants featured in the collection.

Whats Poppington: Burkman Bros Hand braided braclets

Could “Pan-Africanism” be on the road map for this summer’s fashion trend? Look no further than Kanye West, who took Coachella by storm earlier this month. While most were focusing on the pairs of Air Yeezy 2 he pounced on stage on, a few also noticed the tribal getup he wore, including 3 integral woven bracelets by BURKMAN BROS. Hand braided and comes in a pack of 3, the designs extrude nostalgia when “friendship bracelets” were all the rage. Of course these were made to last, unlike those claimed to by your “friends”.

Taking inspiration from their far-flung travels and perhaps the odd muse they met along the way, the Burkmans deftly updated classic menswear pieces without ever taking stylistic flourishes too far. Maybe an eyedropper of Asian influence, thank you very much, but no more. Each season takes fresh influence from somewhere or something else, while the brothers’ skilled restraint keeps the overall tone cool and considered. The result is a distinctive, casual menswear line that is strong, sexy and never gratuitous

What’s Poppington: Biker Chic with a “twist”

Photobucket

Can you imagine a military look without the military jacket? Uhh I dont think its really possible. So it goes without any say that the motorcycle jacket is the key piece to the biker look. But not every motorcycle jacket will do these days, oh on no, its gonna have to have a warn in Marlon Brando feel to it, think Burberry, or Balmain.

We have largely looked at the biker look for women for many seasons, floral dresses put together with a nice cropped biker jacket, paired with stilettos or a biker boot. But we totally forgot that this look was modified by men. But look no further, the look is merging right back into the men’s wardrobe at the same time this year, but to a smaller degree. A number of design houses, especially Burberry, and Balmain, the main element is the statement jacket, unlike women which have a lot more additional pieces. The color palette will be much subtle, and muted.

What’s Poppington: it’s hip to be…PUNK

Punk fashion is going to be very huge in 2011, so many versatile styles to use. The punk style was a rebellious statement that started in Britain years ago. Along with punk style came punk music, and a cult following of the artistic youth looking to express their own voices. Ripped T-shirts, extravagant piercings, and spiked hair in bright colors represented this non-conformist group. Think Sid Vicious meets Courtney Love for a lovely date on a Friday night.
