Whats Poppington: Alexander Wang S/S 2012

If there are two buzzwords to associate with Alexander Wang’s Spring show they would be “effortless” and “technical”. The Wang girls sported fresh from the shower hair, minimal makeup and a series of sporty looks that wouldn’t seem out of place at the local Equinox. One might assume that all this downtown chic is just the natural vibe of the cooler than cool cast, but that is where the technical bit comes in. Wang’s runway was filled with pieces that were laser cut, laden with exotic materials and styled within an inch of their lives by Karl Templer. The perfection on the catwalk is no happy accident, even though the line remains a favorite of girls who want the “just rolled out of bed” mystique. What Wang does best is tread the line between calculated and cool, his girls may look like they don’t care but rest assured that they do. Everything about this collection was on trend, right down to the runway return of Elise Crombez

Whats Poppington: Berthold Rothas by Gonçalo Claro for nstyle

Dress You Up–Berthold Rothas graces the pages of the latest issue of nstyle magazine photographed by Gonçalo Claro. With his playful personality on full display, Berthold is styled by Simonne Doret in an eclectic wardrobe accented by cheeky accessories featuring Alexander Wang, Fred Perry, Diesel, Jeremy Scott and others. I like this look alot because of the less of effort, I think trying hard has always been a no no in fashion, and literally every dude was these pieces and concepts in their closet.

Whats Poppington: The 2011 CFDA Awards….and guess who won fashion icon award?

It’s safe to say that Lady Gaga’s fashion sense is an acquired taste. You either love it or you hate it. Well, the 10th Annual Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards were held tonight in Alice Tully Hall at NYC’s Lincoln Center, and it seems like they love her style. In fact, the CFDA loves it so much, that they presented her with the Fashion Icon Award for 2011. “Fashion made me feel like a star before I was,” Gaga said during her acceptance speech. But she wasn’t the only winner of the night, check out who else got acknowledged for their savvy sartorial sensibilities:

The unofficial after party, hosted by Stephen Gan and Nicola Formichetti, was really in celebration of Lady Gaga’s Fashion Icon award, so LaBelle dedicated “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” to the singer. When Gaga got up to join her at the end, she’d slipped into something slightly more sheer than the black studded bustier dress she wore to the ceremony. The idea, presumably, was to be more comfortable. Instead, she wore a studded version of Peter Pan’s shadow. And Patti LaBelle probably thought here plaid wide leg pants were edgy!
