Whats Poppington: 2011 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

OKay, so unless you’ve been living under a rock the past 14 years, its no secret that your familiar with Victoria’s Secret. I remember as a kid, my mother would get the catalogs, and I would be amazed how beautiful and happy all the girls looked…a few years later I began watching the shows that came on usually around November of each year, and I must confess this years show is going to be amazing!!! Kerr did, however, get to wear the $2.5 million Fantasy Treasure Bra, as husband Orlando Bloom stood and clapped for her in the audience).

This year’s wing marvels included spontaneously inflating capes (on Joan Smalls), light-up neon wings (on many in the final “Club Pink”-themed section), and twin self-rotating umbrellas (on Izabel Goulart). Nicki Minaj was twirled by Erin Heatherton as she performed “Super Bass”; Kanye West — in a new Versace for H&M jacket — invited “big bro” and surprise guest Jay-Z out to join him for their Watch the Throne song “N*ggas in Paris” (Beyonce, dancing and singing along, appeared temporarily in the audience for the duration of the track); and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine escorted girlfriend Anne Vyalitsyna down the runway holding hands, ending with a kiss on her cheek, all while simultaneously singing “Moves Like Jagger.”It doesnt Air until the 27th of November but telling from the pics its epic, you be the judge.

Whats Poppington: Rihanna “we found love” video

Theres only certain videos that make me watch it over and over and over, and I get this certain relationship with it, as if it was made for me. In RiRi’s latest video ‘ We found Love’ feat Calvin Harris, she takes us on this fashionable love hate relationship with a guy that looks similar to Chris Brown, the video shows what its like to have two dysfunctional love birds trying to make it happen, but in the end, its just not worth it, and you eventually have to move on , the fashion is phenomenal, the pinup hair dos, the rockabilly punkish theme studded clothing, I love it all

Whats Poppington: Versace fall 2011 Campaign ads

The house’s Fall 2011 campaign is also perpetuating a new Versace era; instead of Mario Testino, who has done Versace campaign honors since 2004, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott were the photographers of choice, a Versace first. And rather than featuring a celebrity or a blonde — as is typical for Versace — the campaign focuses on the brunette Saskia de Brauw. “For me, it is expected to have the blonde girl, the sexy girl, and this is what Versace meant recently,” explained Donatella. “But I thought about how in the past, when Gianni used girls like Kristen McMenamy and Stella Tennant, everyone was always saying, ‘Wow, this is not a Versace girl, she is not blonde.’ Sometimes you need to renew yourself to work better and to make a little bit of a push.” Of the resulting images, Versace added: “It’s a glamorous woman and it’s a little pop, which I love. Mert and Marcus are very talented and full of ideas. This season is just the beginning. I want to push something different and new.”

Whats Poppington: Rougue’s Gallery

An appreciation for fine tailoring is in Duncan Quinn‘s blood. The bespoke suit designer — whose clients range from Green Day to Christian Louboutin — grew up watching his father wearing well-made suits he picked up on London’s Savile Row in the 1960s. Inspired to start his own collection, Quinn opened his first store in New York in 2003. A Los Angeles location, Dallas boutique and pop-up shop in Miami followed thereafter. Life + Times caught up with Quinn to discuss his pieces, ZZ-Top and which Victoria’s Secret models he’d want wearing one of his suits.

Whats Poppington: Jan iú Més Spring 2011

A Take on Cool–A cool Mediterranean influence sets the tone for Jan iú Més’ spring 2012 showing. Looking out to sea for inspiration, a clean collection finds its voice in a variety of silhouettes–ranging from narrow and elongated to oversize. Whether it is electric blue, golden yellow or a pure white, Jan iú Més creates a relaxing atmosphere, in turn accomplishing a great deal when it comes to separates. Hand-dyed and dressed in vivid prints, linen suiting carries a resort feel, while shorts, knitwear and loose shirting sum up a season of great relaxation.

Whats Poppington: Men ‘fur’ it all

How to wear Fur–For the fall 2011 season there was a collective decision to put fur on the runways. Whether it came in a “dappled jaguar” black and white print, like at Burberry Prorsum, or as an all-black full-length trench, as at John Galliano, the material was all over the runways. The occurrence was only one part of the luxury theme that designers proposed for the upcoming season.- To me the key would be wear it with the “unexpected”..thats Poppington

The Shoe Game: Vans + Hermes+ Robert Verdi

Parisian silk scarves and grubby slip-on sneakers are always exclusive, Having two in the same closet is always Poppington. A guy to always push the boudaries and throw out and pull in new fashion theories, Robert Verdi whos worked in the fashion industry for over 15 years. Showcasing an over the top variety of outfits and, and styling abundant number of people including Halle Berry. Nevertheless, not satisfied with his already emporium-worthy collection of shoes, he called in for a custom creation from Vans. Handing over his Hermes scarf collection as inspiration, behold a fantastic end product to fuel the concept of ‘opposites attract’. Both brands have worked to achieve respected places in the industry, albeit among contrasting consumers.

Whilst Hermes has been designing silk scarves for the luxury market since 1937 and tapping into Parisian couture with its luxury accessories, Vans emerged from the underground scene in 1966 California, catering for the masses with its skate-shoe classics. Whilst Hermes has famously graced the decolletes of Audrey Hepburn and her majesty Queen Elizabeth, Vans have been sported by the likes of Tony Hawk and Dave Grohl. The 66 style sneaker, with its rubber sole and canvas body is an icon in itself. A popular choice for men and women alike, it offers comfort, function and fashion. Providing much variety through the different prints, the custom collection includes delicate Japanese florals, regal chain-motifs and Alice in Wonderland style characters. Sadly, the shoes aren’t going to be mass-produced, they’re merely for Verdi’s personal collection. Nevertheless, we’re keeping our fingers and toes crossed that the custom project inspired ol’Hermes to pick up the phone.

Whats Poppington: Free love in Fiasco

The one thing I admire is 70s fashion. The mood is very free, and loungy(if thats even a word) and theres nothing like a velvet lounge surrounded by groupies and free spirited love. The film Almost Famous is the vibe im getting from this shoot. The location has a run down, stripped back opulence. There’s an air of hypnotic serenity, as if there’s no regard for the marching of time’s feet in this place, only for the beating of the rock’n’roll drum. And the styling by Katharine Polk is moody and authentic and sensual, from men’s leather flares to fur coats and floppy hats, it’s inspiration for both genders on how to work your ’70s pieces into a festival-ready rock star look.

Whats Poppington: Godfather of Androgyny: Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2011 Couture

The Men of Gaultier introduce the first ever couture collection for men. Mr. Gaultier is known for always mastering the ideas of sexuality and gender bending, with doing thism, it also shows his quirky and artistic sense of humor. Putting menswear to the test, trench coats were elongated and worn over voluminous skirts? The classic suit was very textured and fabricated, while his silk creations were over the top embellished with major beading. Velvet capes, Fur coats, emerged as mere wardrobe staples for the designer, who continues to envision a world where the line of gender is blurred.
