I decided to check out this show after seeing a few people recommend it on Twitter and I’m glad I did.
Chewing Gum is a London based show following 24 year old Tracy Gordon (Michaela Coel) as she tries to break away from her strict religious upbringing and explore life, starting with losing her virginity. That sounds simple enough, but Chewing Gum takes that idea and does a whole Olympic sprint with it. The story-lines drift into ridiculous and awkwardly raunchy situations. The characters are quirky and diverse and honestly kinda weird, everyday people that only add to the show’s hilarious absurdity.
Each season only has six episodes, but that’s because star of the show, Michaela Coel, is also the sole writer and mastermind. What started as a school project has pushed her to the spotlight and gotten her a few awards such as the British Television Acedemy Award for Best Female Performance in a Comedy. With Chewing Gum’s success, hopefully we’ll be seeing Coel and her ideas more often
Chewing Gum is designed to totally get a rise out of you, or at least make you a little uncomfortable. But it’s different. It strays away from a lot of cliche TV tropes that make a lot of shows boring and predictable. With Chewing Gum, you truly never know what to expect.
If explicit sexual humor isn’t your thing you may not want to tune in.
As we approach March, the weather in Charleston has finally started to hover around the mid 60’s and low 70’s. Charlestonians are shedding jackets for short sleeves and street style is quickly shuffling from Winter to Spring.
I’m a sucker for eclectic patterns so this fellow’s shirt snatched my attention immediately.
Name: Treshawn Ford
Treshawn Ford is a junior at the College of Charleston and a Charleston native.
Julia: So what was the inspiration behind your outfit today? Could you tell me a little bit about your pieces?
Treshawn: Well my inspiration behind my outfit was that cool but flashy feeling I always feel. My grandfather is also African so I decided to bring channel some of that with my shirt and my beads.
T: I actually got my shirt from the women’s section at Goodwill. Instead of a women’s shirt or a men’s shirt I turned it into a Trey’s shirt.
J: How would you describe your usual style?
T: I would say subtle and flashy. I like to play around until I find two colors and then expand on them. Its like telling a story.
VH1 did an article on the top 15 female rappers to look out for in 2015, The list is quite interesting. Some of the MC’s that made the list has definitely made an impact this year and will continue to make their mark into 2016, and others I haven’t heard of. That’s not to say that they’re not doing big things, I simply haven’t heard of them. I’m no rap authority, I just like what I like, which just so happens to end up very popular or mainstream. So, with that being said, I have an eye for things and people that are poppington (pun intended). The top 15 ladies that were selected by VH1 are Angel Haze; Lizzo to Jungle Pussy; Tiffany Foxx to Nyemiah Supreme. Didn’t I just say that i’m tuned in to all things/people that are and will be poppington. Tiffany Fox, yes mam. I did a post on her a few years back (I’m tooting my horn) because I knew she would certainly make a mark, Nyemiah Supreme was also featured on a PrettynPoppington post along with other female MC’s apart of The Sisterhood of Hip Hop, a reality show that show cased women and their journey to success in the hip hop industry. I feel that VH1 has a pretty accurate list. My top three female MC’s for 2015 are as followed and check out hip hops female rap competition below.
Kendrick Lamar interviews members form NWA in an informal sit down that discusses their thoughts on how they’ve evolved from the hard life of growing up in Compton LA, to how their lives have changed. Are they still the same young men that came straight out of Compton? Do they still relate their millionaire and billionaire status to the life and culture of gansta rap? Check out the interview and see for yourself.
I live for a good ole fashion “read”, yes I do. I’m not talking about a good book either. I’m talking about a finger waving, head swaying, heffa don’t get slapped read. If it’s warranted and deserved, to the point wear it’s clear that the person who’s getting their ass handed to them deserves it, I’m all for it. In this case Nykhor Paul did the reading, and unprepared so called professional makeup artist are the readies. Nykhor Paul is upset and vocally displayed her frustrations in an instagram post about “professional” industry makeup artist not having her shade of foundation when its time for her to get her makeup done for a professional shoot. First off I understand how she feels 100% and second of all I consider myself and industry professional makeup artist and I would NEVER ask the talent, client, or model to bring their own anything. That’s so unprofessional, It’s tasteless and pathetic, And I’m insulted as a makeup artist and a women of color. If your Casper white of blue black and your a professional industry artist or consider yourself a makeup artist in general you should have all shades covered across the board no excuses. If not, your slack and your craft is weak. I’m a little hard on this topic because it’s simple and the world of fashion and entertainment is full of an array of skin shades. So take this as a lesson learned and step your game up to where it’s supposed to be.
Dear white people in the fashion world!
Please don’t take this the wrong way but it’s time you people get your shit right when it comes to our complexion! Why do I have to bring my own makeup to a professional show when all the other white girls don’t have to do anything but show up wtf! Don’t try to make me feel bad because I am blue black its 2015 go to Mac, Bobbi Brown, Makeup forever, Iman cosmetic, black opal, even Lancôme and Clinique carried them plus so much more. there’s so much options our there for dark skin tones today. A good makeup artist would come prepare and do there research before coming to work because often time you know what to expect especially at a show! Stop apologizing it’s insulting and disrespectful to me and my race it doesn’t help, seriously! Make an effort at least! That goes for NYC, London, Milan, Paris and Cape Town plus everywhere else that have issues with black skin tones. Just because you only book a few of us doesn’t mean you have the right to make us look ratchet. I’m tired of complaining about not getting book as a black model and I’m definitely super tired of apologizing for my blackness!!!! Fashion is art, art is never racist it should be inclusive of all not only white people, shit we started fashion in Africa and you modernize and copy it! Why can’t we be part of fashion fully and equally? ” ~Nykhor Paul~
Messy Mayweather is at it again. Floyd Mayweather was questioned about T.I during a press conference for his upcoming Marcos Maidana fight. He was asked by a fan in the crowd, “what about T.I” and his response was not so nice. Messy Mayweather responded by saying, -what about the b-tch? I was f-ckin’ his b-tch. Money Mayweather gon’ make it do what it do, baby!- Come on Floyd, why rehash a dead situation and make things so nasty after you gave such a heart felt apology to Tiny and her family on Necole Bitchie in an exclusive interview. T.I, what are you going to do about this I wonder? Well what ever you do PLEASE no violence.
K. Michelle made her way to Bala Cynwyd, PA to promote her album “Rebellious Soul” (hits stores this week) Ms. K Michelle always looks amazing. Her hair was on point as usual, swag was certainly on deck, and her make up was flawless. For her interview with Power 99 she wore acid wash high waist distressed jeans, a black cropped top with cross details, 6-inch peep toe suede booties with a flourishing gold platform and a super cute black racing jacket that set of the entire outfit.
I have grown to love K. Michelle, and I know I’m not alone. Lets think and be real for a moment, she says what we all think and she does what we really want to do. K. Michelle reminds me of my crazy beautiful cousin that will get a little ratchet from time to time. I think the the TV watching world has grown to love her not to mention the girl has pipes, and she can SANG!!!
We all should have heard Kelly Rowland’s hit single “Dirty Laundry,” from her album Talk a Good Game. Wonderful song, very intimate with a strong meaning and obvious reality, and real life struggles felt and made vocal in each lyric. I personally love the song and now that the video is out I love it even more. Check it out for yourself to see what I mean. I’m sure you’ll agree.
It’s so refreshing to see someone you enjoy gain happiness in life. Especially a celeb that you absolutely adore, and if you are a frequent visitor of PrettynPoppington you know we LOVE ourselves some Amber. Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa got hitched and made it official. She’s now Mrs. Khalifa or Mrs. Amber Rose Khalifa, well shes just married now how about that. Congrats to the couple and I truly hope they continue to have a long lasting happy relationship. I will continue to live vicariously through the two of them imagining how a happy relationship with obvious love and care should be. I love them as a couple and now there’re my favorite husband and wifey duo.
This is the worst cover I have seen in my life. missed matched and oh so WRONG!. Miley what the hell are you doing. I had to get that out first. That was my rant of the day. I feel like the cover could have been styled better. It looks like they slapped Khia in a Wet Seal club outfit then her and Miley decided to take a picture at a hood club on Old National Rd. in ATL
Khia is the featured artist on the remix of Miley’s new hit single “We Can’t Stop.” Khia sounds pretty good. She hasn’t lost that raspy voice along with those rachet lyrics. Miley likes ratchet these days so I know she’s loving the collab with Khia and is probably grateful that Khia hit her up on twitter after she did a post about Khia’s “My Neck My Back” hit. Check out the tweets below.
It’s that kinda day #myneck pic.twitter.com/ETLCbJ5B5I — Miley Ray Cyrus (@MileyCyrus) June 22, 2013

Does this look familiar to you? reminds you of the CDs your homeboy or homegirl would burn for you back in highschool when you wanted to cop that new Jay, Biggie, or Nas?….well your pretty close. Our music genius Kanye West is serving us the throwback vibe with his new album, apparently hes done with commercial everything!
Last night, during his performance at the Governor’s Ball, he addressed a few things regarding his upcoming album, “Yeezus” during a brief break in his set, including his decision to release his project without an album cover. He revealed:
“This is usually the part of the show when I start complaining about sh-t…justifying sh-t but you know how it is. I’m just happy to be making music. And happy to be able to perform and sh-t for y’all. You know with this album, we ain’t drop no single for radio. We ain’t got no big NBA campaign or nothing like that. Sh-t, we ain’t even got no cover. We just made some real music. And you know like, back when I use to make albums and sh-t like a couple of years ago, we would go away and work on our album for like five months or something ,and then we’d always have to hold the album until August or September, till the perfect moment and sh-t. Because it will mean that, ‘I think you’re going to sell more because you get more audience and ratings and sh-t,’ but honestly at this point when I listen to radio, that ain’t where I wanna be no more.”
Honestly at this point, I could give a f-ck about selling a million records as long as I can put out an album for the summer that y’all can rock to all motherf-cking summer[…] At this point, I don’t really give a f-ck about outside opinions, all I give a f-ck about is my clique, clique, ain’t nobody fresher than my motherf-cking clique, clique, clique. As I look around they don’t do it like my clique. And all these b-tches mad they want the d–k.
In case you missed it, this is how the Yeezus album will be packaged when it hits stores on June 18.
Baddie Bey has wrapped up the European leg of her tour and what better way to celebrate than a date night with hubby Carter. Just a day after Jay and Bey took to the stage to perform as part of the Sound of Change concert in London, the two were spotted hitting the streets of New York for a long date night. Their romantic downtime away from Blue Ivy included dinner in Brooklyn, a movie in Battery Park and a stop at Hot 97′s Summer Jam (where Jay was spotted backstage debated on whether he should join Kendrick Lamar on stage.)
*****A Beyonce fan boasted on Twitter*****
“Anyway, I really ate dinner in the same restaurant as Beyonce and Jay-Z. It was weird. According to my wife, “It’s like she was in HD.”. Beyonce is having a glass of wine so I can personally put those pregnancy rumors to rest. I walked by them. The only thing I heard was Beyonce saying, “It’s a GREAT song.” They were talking about music. Get a f-cking hobby, right? Beyonce is gorgeous. Like, people don’t look like that in real life. Jay-Z is a lucky man.”
Jay-Z’s schedule in the last week has included peeping Beyonce on tour in Berlin, catching Skylar Diggins first game in New York, hitting the stage with Beyonce in London and a flight back to New York for a date night and Summer Jam. That’s what you call superb time management.
I love the Knowles/Carter women, so when I was Saw Miss Solange doing her thing rocking this awesome summer getup, I had to share the fashion love. She was spotted rocking havana twists this past weekend as she hit the stage in Philly for the 6th Annual Roots picnic. While rocking mixed prints from one my favorite print designers “Boxing Kitten” and a bright red lip, she performed a few notable tracks from her past and present albums, including the fan-favorite “T.O.N.Y” off of her second album, Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams. The fashionMomma.com/ stylish singer was also spotted backstage playing with water guns with her son Juelz and her cousin Angie Beyince……(not Beyonce, but Beyince) 🙂
During a recent stop in Berlin, the couple took time out to enjoy life and each other while acting as though they were still in their early stages of dating. Bey posted a series of photos of them being super silly, while posing by a graffiti wall and later having dinner. She also threw some “I’m not pregnant” hint by having a glass of red wine….This couple is constantly having to prove rumors are just rumors, why cant they be allowed to live their lives like everyone else? wait I forgot, its a King and Queen we’re talking here
I am all about a really good signature scent. I started getting into the whole cologne ideal when I was working at a retail store(which I refuse to mention) and I was always surrounded by these scents. One day I took the time to find the “correct” scent for me, at that time It was the Marc Jacobs Signature cologne, it was my everything, a great summer and winter scent, nothing overpowering, nothing too sweet….I wore it until it was discontinued……
Years later I just happened to pop into that same retail store (which I refuse to mention) and I noticed a very chic and simple bottle by one of my favorite designers Givenchy. Givenchy “Gentleman Only”. Gentlemen Only is a modern homage to the classic fragrance of the house – Givenchy Gentlemen from 1974. This fragrance was once revolutionary amongst masculine fragrance introducing strong and intense woody notes instead of the traditional aromatic and citrusy ones.
Gentlemen Only is intended to men of our times; it is designed around modern woody nuances. The composition opens with fresh and spicy accords of green mandarin, pink pepper, nutmeg and birch leaves. Deep and intense woody character is provided by the heart of cedar, patchouli and vetiver. The base captures incense and animalistic notes.
The pic below is the day I bought it and planted it here.
